Please be advised that some of the projects on "Do It Yourself"are free while some are not, but remember, you are free to choose which projects are right for you.
I wish I could offer every project for free but since I have no experience with some of these projects, I rather leave it to the experts in that particular field.
I would like to add this, I have tried some of these projects myself and found that they were worth every dollar that I spent.
First do it yourself project.
Bathroom vanity
In this article We will go over an easy project that will save you hundreds of dollars. You know . Carpenters and plumbers are not cheap.
Remove the old vanity
- Shut off the hot and cold water supply lines and disconnect both water lines.
- Disconnect the drain pipe at the sink and remove the pipe from the P-trap.
- Remove the screws that fasten the vanity to the wall and remove the vanity from the wall.
To install the vanity.
- Slide the cabinet into place and check it for level from all directions.
- slip shims under and/or behind the cabinet until it is level and plumb. ( I use brad nails to fasten the shims to the cabinet and then I saw the shims off at a slight angle so they do not interfere with the vanity top ).
- Drive screws through the cabinet frame and to the wall framing studs. ( use a stud finder to locate the framing studs ).
Set the sink or vanity top upside down and install the drain pipe and faucet.
- Set the sink or vanity top on the cabinet and make sure it’s centered and square. This is the right time to make any adjustments if needed.
- Dry fit all the plumbing and make any adjustments or additions to the piping as needed.
Tip:
- It is a good idea to mark the adjacent pipe fittings so you can realign them exactly the same way you dry fitted them. ( If the drain is black, you can use a piece of masking tape on both adjacent fitting and mark a line along both fittings ).
- Once you are satisfied with all the plumbing fittings you can remove the one piece vanity top and apply a bead of silicone to the top edge of the cabinet and lay the vanity top back on top of the cabinet.
- glue and connect the plumbing pipes in place. Wipe off the excess silicone from underneath the vanity top and apply a bead of silicone underneath the vanity top where it meets with the cabinet.
Turn the water on and check for leaks. Fix any water leaks if needed.
